F-Secure Security Labs has a video in YouTube showing the outbreak of a Trojan with the name Small.DAM (Storm-Worm). It is a Trojan that arrives on the system as attachment file to spam emails.
The WorldMap Live shown in the video is a map view of the report sent by the F-Secure security products on detection of the Trojan. F-Secure security products such as Internet Security 2007 sends back the IP address of the infected computer. The WorldMap Live software then calculates the geographical location of the computer and fills up the world map.
In the video, you will notice most PC users schedule to scan for infections at midnight when you see the most detections.
The WorldMap Live is available for internal use only. The public viewable version is much less impressive. Want to protect your PC? Read my previous article on the trends of security threats in year 2007.
Microsoft Excel is a powerful business tool with many advanced charting, graphing, and algorithmic/statistical capabilities, making it a favorite among business users. It has been estimated that 50% of the world’s business logic is contained within Excel spreadsheets.
Traditional data integration into Excel usually takes the form of
- Hand entry of data from a paper source
- Data imported from another file (database, spreadsheet, delimited text file, etc.)
- Date pulled by an intermediate program from another source (Visual Basic, macro, etc.)
Microsoft has acquired Colloquis for its customer support initiatives to create computer-based interactive customer services. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. You can try out the ASA to get a feel of how intelligent the bot is.
Current online support mechanisms - FAQ and Search - have fallen short of meeting customers expectations of acceptable service, causing routine queries to be handled by support staff. Customers now expect and demand much more responsive customer service. To retain its customers, a company like Microsoft must be able and willing to answer questions and resolve issues with the same prompt attention it gives to closing sales.
Providing high-availability, high-quality customer service is neither easy nor inexpensive. For example, a live phone support will cost you in between $7.00 - $33.00 per session. Even with email support, the traditional cheap alternative will also cost around $1.50 - $7.80 per session.
.mobi is a top-level domain approved by ICANN as a sponsored TLD. It will be restricted to mobile devices and sites providing services for them on the Mobile Web. It is sponsored by a consortium of companies including Google, Microsoft, Vodafone, Samsung, Ericsson and Nokia. As of November 2005, the domain had been added to the global internet root and was getting ready for its opening. Starting May 22, 2006 industry members can register a .mobi domain name, June 12 for trademark holders, and Sept. 26 general registration. Over 12,000 companies have already registered their brands online for their .mobi site and some sites are even launched.
So why is this exciting ? Well how many times have you tried to surf the Internet from your device only to find that all the sites have been designed for a 17″ 1024×768 screen? How many times have you waited for a complex site to download and then given up? So if you access a .mobi site you’ll know that it will work on a mobile device! Try out live.mobi where you can now access your hotmail/live mail, spaces and even mobile search!
